Shri Samarth
Rmadas Swami
Sajjangad

Saint Shri Samarth Ramdas was born in 1608AD in the village Jaamb, in Marathwada on the auspicious day of Ramnavmi. His name was Narayan Suryaji Thosar. Ranubai was his mother. Gangadhar Shastri alias shreshta was his elder brother. In 1620 AD, Narayan ran away from his marriage celebration, when the Brahmin priests, uttered the words 'saavadhan', alert oh! bridegroom'. From there he went to village Takli near Nasik. There he practised meditation of "Gayatri Mantra" and chanted the name of Shri Ram. He continued observing the rigourous order for twelve years and got the blessings of Shriram.

Gradually same Narayan, became welknown and was called Samarth Ramdas. On attaining twenty four, he started for pilgrimage, moved in all corners of India for nearly twelve years and obtained the first hand knowledge of conditions of society. Under the inspiration of Lord Shriram, he commenced his mission of upliftment of people, at the bank of river Krishna.

Heaven On Earth

At Shivthar
Shri Samarth Ramdas, inspired, motivated, the disappointed, dejected, dormant people, of Maharashtra who were suffering under the tyranny of foreign rules and had lost their self confidence, selfrespect, and galvanised these common folk for confident action, for winning freedom, safeguarding their national interest, and working for excellence and self actualisation. His inspiring teachings in pragmatic treatise 'Dasbodh' were written at 'Shivthar' a place which is virtually heaven on earth.

He placed before people, the ideal of Lord Shriram. He coaxed people to work like great devotee Hanuman, a deity of strength. He set up Hanuman temples everywhere.

During the same period, by the grace of god; great king Shivaji was also ruling in Maharashtra. He had accepted guidence of Samarth Ramdas, for spiritual elevation as well as matters of state administration. This pair of Guru and disciple had once again brought alive the memories of Lord Shri Krishna and Arjun for establishment of truth and right just order.

Shri Samarth started staying on Fort Sajjangad, near Satara city, due to love and affection of Shivaji Maharaj. He was active in fulfilling the activities liked by ideal of Shri Ram. Ultimately, in 1681, on the 'Navami' in 'Maagh', 1681 AD. day his physical body, was merged in cosmos. His samadhi at Sajjangad, inspires devotees for self elevation and supreme excellence in every segment of life.
